REVIVAL OF 86 FT CONCEPT AT FRANKFURT
Source | 14 Sep 2011Taking inspiration from its own historic successes, the shape and style of the Toyota Celica, Supra and the handling and driftability of the Corolla AE 86 was not enough, but adopting the heritage of its Japanese rival Subaru may be what it takes to make the FT-86 a worldwide icon.
The second concept of this hunkered sports-coupe was unveiled yesterday at the Frankfurt Motor Show, looking more production-ready than ever.
Further affirming the car's sporting intentions, Toyota have realeased that the car will come with a Toyota/Subaru 4-cylinder boxer engine, producing around 200bhp. While critics say this is will power is not nearly enough to make it competitive, experts reinforce their lightweight, medium power principles. We should expect sub 7-second 0-60 times.
The boxer engine will drive the rear wheels through a 6-speed gearbox blending performance with economy offering a good compromise between the two.
No prices are available yet but expect it to cost from £18,000 upwards.
